Welcome to the Home of the 213th Regiment, Allentown, PA
The First Defenders

Hello! I am LTC Dan Bohr. It is a privilege to serve this organization as it's Honorary Commander. Our mission is to serve and support the current soldiers and families of the 213th Regional Support Group and to preserve the history and traditions of the Regiment.
The 213th Regiment, and its predecessors units, have a long and distinguished history dating back to service with President Washington and the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. One of our most celebrated deployments was answering President Lincoln's call in April 1861 to defend Washington, D.C. from a Confederate attack at the beginning of the Civil War. Within 48 hours of the Presidents Call, five units from Pennsylvania composed of 530 men arrived in Washington. Four of these units are direct ancestors of the Regiment. President Lincoln personally greeted these men and declared them to be "The First Defenders".
The Regiment has participated in every U.S. supported major conflict, up to, and including missions to Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. This stellar Record to our nation has resulted in the awarding of 52 battle streamers and one Medal of Honor. Corporal Ignatz Gresser received our country's highest honor during the Civil War.
The 213th Regiment is headquartered in the General Curtis Armory, 15th and Allen Streets, Allentown, PA 18102. (www.213thregiment.org)
